Denver Human Services Kicks Off Annual #BeAGiver Spring Showers Hygiene Drive to Support Community Members

DHS GIVE Center supplied over 30,000 essential hygiene items in 2024

DENVER – April 14, 2025 – Denver Human Services (DHS) has launched its annual #BeAGiver Spring Showers Hygiene Drive to restock the GIVE Center through 2026 with personal hygiene items for underserved communities.

Thousands of people experiencing crises such as homelessness visit the GIVE Center each year for emergency support. A resource provided by the city and supported by donors, the GIVE Center has collected and distributed household, children's and personal goods to Denver families since 2011.

“GIVE Center customers often share that free hygiene products help sustain their health, dignity and resilience in difficult times,” says DHS Executive Director Anne-Marie Braga. “This drive directly aligns with our mission to compassionately serve Denver residents by connecting them to basic needs and community supports.

“Together, we can make sure that people experiencing homelessness and other crises have consistent access to toothpaste, hand sanitizer, tampons and other products that positively impact their health and wellbeing,” Braga adds.

In 2024, the GIVE Center supplied visitors with over 30,000 essential hygiene items. The #BeAGiver Spring Showers Hygiene Drive ensures that Denver residents have ongoing support with their safety and health, especially during financial hardship.

An estimated 70% of the people who visit the GIVE Center for assistance each year are experiencing homelessness.

“I am very grateful to have received these things,” said a visitor named Alex. “It is extremely difficult maintaining the hygienic standards I had before I became homeless, but getting these products today helps me to take care of myself. Being able to keep up with my hygiene is not only critical for my health, but you are helping me feel competent as I apply for jobs.”

Through May 16, DHS is collecting new, unopened hygiene items at donation bins across the city. Due to space restrictions, the GIVE Center also greatly appreciates monetary donations. Monetary gifts empower the GIVE Center to selectively purchase hygiene items that are high in demand or low in stock. Giving online is convenient way to support the donation drive, and 100% of the money raised goes towards purchasing hygiene products.

To recap, here are five ways to #BeAGiver and keep the DHS GIVE Center supplied through 2026:

  1. Give Money Online. Let the GIVE Center do the shopping for you! Tax-deductible gifts are accepted on DHS’s website or you can mail a personal check. Every dollar received goes towards buying more supplies!
