Denver Seeks Feedback from Globeville, Elyria-Swansea Residents on How to Make Neighborhood Streets Better, Safer
Denver – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is seeking input from people who live in Globeville and Elyria-Swansea (GES) on where they believe improvements could be made to increase safety on city streets and quality of life through greener spaces (see graphic below).
The effort, known as the North Denver Safer Streets (NDSS) initiative, aims to plan, design and construct travel safety improvements within GES in the next three years, and is asking the community to share their experiences, feedback and ideas. Similar approaches have been used to make safety and travel improvements in Northwest, Central and South Central Denver since 2020.
Improvements proposed to be made in the neighborhoods include:
- slowing vehicle speeds
- reducing cut-through traffic
- adding crosswalks and making crossings safer
- providing space for bicyclists/scooter riders
- making bus stops accessible, and
- adding more greenery
To gather feedback, DOTI is hosting a public open house this week and has launched a bilingual survey for GES residents and community members, open now through Sunday, April 6. Feedback collected from this outreach will help the project team prioritize necessary transportation improvements. The survey can be accessed at www.bit.ly/NDSSsurvey in English, and www.bit.ly/NDSSsurveyesp in Spanish.
What: Public Open House for GES residents
When: Thursday, April 3, from 5-7 p.m.
Where: Johnson Recreation Center, 4809 Race Street, Denver, CO.
NDSS is using a community-driven process to co-create solutions and build projects that improve safety and access for people walking, bicycling, scooting, rolling and driving. For project updates, including other scheduled outreach events, people can visit the NDSS website, bit.ly/NDSSDenver.
