Food In Communities

Food in Communities logo Food in Communities (FIC) is a regional collaborative equitably increasing neighborhood-level access to healthy, affordable, and culturally relevant foods. The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment, Jefferson County Public Health, and Food Justice NW Aurora lead FIC.

 


FIC  works on food policy, systems, and environmental changes for sustainable wins across Denver, Aurora, and Jefferson County by:  

  • Engaging residents and community-based organizations with participatory approaches to identify local food assets, needs, and priorities.
  • Collaborating with neighborhood groups and governmental entities to design and test pilot projects and long-term supports for food access, food justice, and food entrepreneurship.
  • Partnering with local food policy councils and coalitions to advocate for policies supporting community food priorities. 

In Denver, the community-identified priorities are:

  • Sustainable food systems funding
  • Neighborhood food production
  • Healthy food retail


FIC is funded by the Cancer, Cardiovascular, and Chronic Pulmonary Disease Grants Program at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
