The vehicle owner may authorize another party to recover a vehicle and/or property. To do so, the vehicle owner must send a notarized letter of release to the VIF. The notarized letter must include the vehicle's year, make, model, and vin, as well as the name of the authorized person as it appears on the form of identification they will present at the VIF upon pickup.
In addition to a notarized letter, the authorized party must present the following documentation:
To tow the vehicle out, authorized persons must provide:
- Proof of ownership (title or current registration).
- Valid identification (i.e., driver's license or passport).
To drive the vehicle out, authorized persons must provide:
- Proof of ownership (title or current registration).
- Valid identification (i.e., driver's license or passport).
- A valid driver's license.
- Current registration.
- A proper insurance card.
Access will not be granted for vehicles with police holds.
