At the Final Hearing:

  • You will appear before a Denver County Court judicial officer
  • The city will be required to prove the validity of the citation
  • You may present your defense
  • If the judicial officer finds the ticket is valid, or if you fail to appear at the Final Hearing, a judgment will enter against you for the amount imposed by the court, plus $26.00 court costs. Imposed fines and costs must be paid immediately following the hearing or the vehicle could be placed on the immobilization (boot) list.

Street Sweeping April–November

Residential streets are swept once a month from April through November. Because we can't sweep under parked cars, there's a parking ban on sweeping day for the side of the block being swept. If your car is parked on the side of the street being swept on sweeping day, it will be ticketed and may be relocated.

Know your neighborhood's sweeping schedule: Check the signs on your block to see the schedule for your street; sweeping days may be different for each side of the street, and not every block has restrictions. Once you know your schedule, you can sign up for email and text reminders online.

Boot Removal

If there are 3 or more unpaid tickets (or other outstanding citations) on a vehicle, a seizure warning notice will be issued, and a boot may be placed on your car. The boot won't be removed until all outstanding fines (including the additional $100 boot fee) are paid. If a vehicle is booted for 72 hours without payment, it will be considered abandoned and towed to impound.

Boot Removal

Payment by phone or online for booted vehicles can be made 24 hours a day.

If a vehicle has been towed, the owner/operator will also be responsible for paying any and all fees incurred at the impound lot before the vehicle is released from impound.

Boot Removal Operating Hours:
Boots will be removed Monday – Friday between: 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Boots will NOT be released on weekends, City holidays or between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on weekdays.

Please note: Boot removal doesn't grant your vehicle any special parking privileges. Once the boot is removed, you must ensure that your car is parked legally to avoid further citation.

Boot and Impound Hearings

If Your Vehicle Has a Boot or Has Been Impounded

Your Options:

Option 1: Pay Fees

  • Pay the fees and underlying citation fines by phone or online
  • Refer to the seizure notice or call the Parking Violations Bureau at 1-866-280-9988
  • To locate a towed vehicle, visit https://search.autoreturn.com/find-vehicle or call the Denver Police non-emergency line at 720-913-2000

Option 2: Request a Hearing

  • Schedule a boot or impound hearing to appear before a special hearing officer
  • Schedule in person at 1437 Bannock St., Room 135, Denver, CO 80202
  • Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Important Limitations of Boot/Impound Hearings

The hearing officer may ONLY consider:

  • Whether jurisdiction exists (boot or impoundment occurred in the City and County of Denver)
  • Whether you are the owner of the vehicle or entitled to possession
  • Whether probable cause existed to impound the vehicle under any provision of the Denver Revised Municipal Code or the Colorado Revised Statutes

The hearing officer CANNOT:

  • Reduce or modify towing, impound, and storage charges already accrued or yet to accrue
  • Make any rulings or modify any fines on the unpaid citations that resulted in the booted or impounded vehicle

If the owner of the vehicle cited is deceased, the vehicle/license plate was stolen, or the vehicle was sold before the citation was issued:

  • Call the Parking Violations Bureau: 1-866-280-9988 (regular business hours) for further instructions

Towing Information

Just because your vehicle has been towed, that doesn't necessarily mean it's been impounded.

Denver, unlike many municipalities, doesn't automatically impound towed vehicles. Vehicles that are towed are often relocated to a nearby location and parked legally there. There is a $100 tow fee incurred for moving a vehicle.

If your vehicle's been towed, contact the Denver Police Non-Emergency line to locate it: 720-913-2000 (When you get the recorded message, hit 0 for the operator; they will look up your vehicle's location.)

Locate a Towed Vehicle

Search for your impounded vehicle online by license, vehicle identification number (VIN) or date of impound.

Find a Vehicle Now

If you don't know where your car's gone, call the Denver Police Non-Emergency line at 720-913-2000. When you get the recorded message, hit 0 for the operator.

If it's been relocated, they'll tell you where to find it; if it's been impounded, they'll direct you to the impound. If it has been stolen, you can report it to them directly.

Street Sweeping Information

Between April and November, residential streets in Denver are swept once per month where posted (not every block has restrictions), and residents are advised to pay attention to the red and white signs posted on their block for street sweeping parking restrictions so DOTI can provide the best street sweeping service possible.
